Friendly and welcoming, very pleasant room, and they even showed me how to work the TV - Sky boxes are a mystery to me. Very good food, great beer - Blue Moon on tap! good chat with the landlord about music. Lovely breakfast. Would book again if I would be going that way another time.

Just returned from a lovely stay at the Castle Hotel.Ian & Elaine are fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome. The room was spacious, a comfortable bed and everything you could need was provided. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The surrounding area is pleasant as it faces a green on which we saw some peacocks most mornings. There are many seating areas located in the garden of the Castle to enjoy a drink or something to eat.We were so fortunate with the weather and enjoyed visiting surrounding places using the Castle as our base.If we’re ever down that way again we would definitely book to stay here once more.Thank you both for making our holiday an enjoyable one.

Traditional pub offering letting rooms. These vary in size. Ours was ok - but there are larger ones with four poster beds! Could possibly consider providing a hairdryer as well as TV (Sky) and tea & coffee making facilities. Dog friendly which was one of the attractions for us. Nice meal in the evening available including veggie choices and very good breakfast if required. Good standard of cooking. Staff very friendly and helpful. Price good and discount given forward booking direct with them. Village is lovely and hotel is directly opposite the Green. For us a good stopover in our journey to France via the Tunnel and a change from one of the large chains!

The room was pleasant quite small but perfect for an overnight stay. Maybe could be slightly modernised but everywhere was clean and very well maintained. Breakfast was lovely for what we paid for the stay i couldn't fault it at all and the lady that served us was having to prepare the breakfast on her own but was lovely and very helpful and we didn't have to wait too long. I would have given 5 stars, I am a dog lover but not having them staying in rooms at a hotel didn't realise this was allowed until we got out of our room and saw 2 golden retrievers coming out of one of the hotel rooms.

The Castle Hotel is a village pub, located in an exceptional English village with its village green, cricket on Sundays and a Norman church it could easily be the location for Midsummer Murders.I use it as a stopover for the channel tunnel (12 minutes away) and enjoyed a walk down to Hythe and a stroll round the village, followed by some good beer. Will definitely be my first choice on another channel crossingThe staff are genuinely friendly, room was cleaner than my house, bottom line very good, only negative point background noise from what I imagine was the kitchen fan.

The most friendly and welcoming staff I have ever encountered. The menu is fairly simple but well cooked and flavoursome. Parts of the building are very old and upstairs some of the floors slope and creak. You either like character or you don't. We are considering a return for a night's stay because we felt so comfortable.
Reviewer: Paul W | Sun 26th Jun 2022 | 2 years ago
The staff were very friendly and breakfast was exceptional, very filling and as we did not want another full English the next day we asked for a fried egg on toast, which they were more than happy to do for us. We had a meal the first night we were there, which was lovely but there was not much on the menu. Our room needed a bit of TLC and updating including the bed and bedding which seemed be quite old (two very flat pillows) which we needed to ask for another pair. but it was very clean.

We travelled from the Midlands & Manchester & stayed for 2 nights with my cousin & his wife as we were attending a family event in Folkestone. We received a warm welcome & staff were friendly throughoutour short stay. Rooms were clean & had everything you would expect. However, the room & particularly bathroom would benefit from some updating & redecoration. The shower looked fairly new & worked perfectly albeit the cubicle was a tad small. There was plenty of room to have put in a roomier cubicle. I believe there is an ongoing schedule of upgrades to some rooms though. Food was typical pub grub& plentiful but service a bit slow. The bar was well stocked with a huge selection of beers & spirits. Hythe centre was a 20 just a 20 minute walk. All in all the hotel suited our needs and was ideally locatedfor our visit to the area.

Our family of 5 stayed for the weekend whilst visiting the local Port Lympne Safari park. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our family room was comfortable and the breakfast was ample and delicious. We also ate dinner at the pub restaurant for convenience with our young family and the food was very tasty as well, with enormous portions! The little village of Saltwood is beautiful and the local town of Hythe very attractive too.

When we first arrived we walked into a lovely young lady with a smile who was new. Me and my colleague had to leave before breakfast was served but the gentleman who I believe was the landlord made us a beef and onion sandwich, packet of Crisps and the nicest bottle of locally made apple juice to take away with us. The room lovely and spacious, the bed was very comfortable which was a massive bonus after staying at a travel lodge for 2 weeks prior in north London. Next time I return it will probably with my missus!

Very enjoyable stay at the Castle Hotel last weekend. The four of us were celebrating our Son & Daughter-in-Law's 30th birthdays. We were made very welcome by our hosts and enjoyed a very hearty full English breakfast on Sunday morning.

Lovely hotel and location. The room was cold and the shower lukewarm but the owners were very quick to sort this out for us. As a result we had a nice stay with a lovely breakfast in the morning.

Friendly and welcoming. The rooms were in need of modernisation but clean. We think the hotel/pub was being renovated. Our dog was made very welcome too! The breakfast was great but fresh ground coffee instead of instant coffee, and a pot of tea would have been appreciated.

We stayed at the Castle Hotel to attend a wedding at Lympne Castle and it was a great location. The view from our room, overlooking the village green, was picture perfect and our hosts where extremely helpful and welcoming. They allowed us to collect our room key early and helped us chase down our missing/late taxi so we got to the venue on time. The bar area and accommodation areas were all very clean, the cleaning team were all working very hard as we collected our room key. Our room was proper traditional pub accommodation with lots of character and our four poster bed was so comfortable. We also enjoyed the lovely full English breakfast that left us stuffed.I would highly recommend the Castle Hotel if you prefer clean traditional accommodation rather than the clinical mass produced chain hotels. I look forward to revisiting and walking the local area

They upgraded us free of charge to a delightful 4 poster family room .Huge homemade burgers and enough quality chips to sink a battle ship left us too full to sample the pudding selection.Breakfast was faultless and again , huge. This couple have worked really hard to create a convivial atmosphere.Comfortable bed .Good evening meal .Huge quality breakfast.Friendly welcome .Very inexpensive .What more could you want?

The room was fine, bed comfortable. Slept well. Breakfast was hearty and nice. My only feedback would be the reception we got. Strange attitude like I should have told we were arriving early (midday). I mentioned it twice, once when I booked and once again in the survey they make you fill out before arriving (which I filled out within a few minutes of it hitting my mailbox). Well you could have let us know! Was then told that “as you may have seen, it’s been all over the news, staff are hard to come by” slightly patronising! I didn’t need a run down of business life, just a key. Apparently, even on a Friday the bar shuts early as there’s not much passing trade. Struggle to see why this should be the case. Places build reputations based on good service, food, ambience. If people aren’t coming, maybe you need to change something. First impressions go a long way and we felt we were inconveniencing them by staying with them!

Hi ChrisWhen you first booked the room you messaged us to say "We expect to arrive back in the evening at about midnight or half past. Do we therefore need to come early to check in or can we arrive late? The wedding starts at 1pm so we could check in around midday."We explained you could check in early at an additional cost of £10, to which you replied "Hi, I won’t actually need the room, just to pick up key so I can get back in later, we won’t have much luggage and can stay in car. Is it possible? Don’t really want to pay to get a key!"You would have received the questionnaire the morning of the day before arrival. If you are able to revisit that document you will see in the notes that you put "If it’s possible to check in at 1 that would be good as we need to get to a wedding nearby.".Our check-out time is 11am and so when you arrived at 11:50am we were not expecting you.Your room had not been cleaned and yet your girlfriend still wanted to get into the room to get changed. As a courtesy we allowed her to change in our disabled toilet which had already been cleaned. As a small business, essentially a pub with five rooms, there is no way we could offer a 24 hour reception or other facilities offered by large chain hotels. You didn't inconvenience us by staying but by not arriving at the agreed time and still wanting to use the room without paying for an early check-in.We took on a dirty, dank, near derelict pub at the end of summer 2019 and were closed by March 2020 due to the pandemic. We have worked extremely hard to clean up the pub and went from a 1 star hygiene rating to a four star rating in less than five months.Since then we have been closed almost 50% of the time so we are still in the process of building up that all important reputation.

Good food in the evening and morning. Owners Elaine and Ken friendly and helpful. Faces the green in a small village of Saltwood on the edge of Hythe. Very pleasant. 15-20 minute walk down into Hythe but there is a bus service from outside the hotel if you don't fancy the walk.

The Castle Hotel is in a lovely spot opposite the green. They have a small car park but the road is fine. The garden out the front looks over the green and this Saturday they had people playing drums and bagpipes, really lovely. The bar and breakfast area is light and well spaced. Masks are required inside, but that is no hard ship. The room is spacious, the shower is tad snug but powerful.Breakfast was lovely.Everyone who works there is freindly, would definately recommend.

From the moment we arrived all the staff were really friendly and welcoming. They interacted with my son (4yo) to make him feel welcome as well. The room was spacious and comfortable having everything that we needed. The food was good and the bar well stocked - especially if you like gin etc.Mask wearing required around the building and the main dining area in the evening was distanced out.The breakfast area was a bit close together in comparison (but at different angles so not facing people) - but the food was really good and freshly made to order with a choice of cooked items from a full english.Would stay again if in the area.

Castle Hotel is based in a lovely village. The restaurant and bar area has been modernised and has a good sized garden. Our room was dated in comparison but clean. The best part of our stay was fantastic home cooked food. We enjoyed fresh vibrant greens and steak pie. We had the most amazing sponge puddings that were so light and fluffy. Tom ran the front of house single handed professionally and with a smile. Amazing as it was busy! Thank you Elaine for your lovely hospitality and fab food.

We stayed here for a couple of nights to attend a wedding. I have to say I had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in years as the room was so quiet and comfy. The proprietors would be the first to acknowledge that some room updating is necessary but it was very clean and that’s the most important factor as far as I’m concerned. Elaine was so friendly and helpful and the breakfast wonderful (although fresh tomatoes would have topped it).The only issue that I had was with the noisy macerator that I realise is in place due to the quirky old building but I really found it a concern if I needed the loo at night and didn’t want to disturb others. It wasn’t a problem otherwise but visitors need to be aware.Would return and probably will as there is so much to do and see in the pretty Kent surroundings.
